ENGLISHMAN CLAIMS TO HAVE PAID £3 FOR ORIGINAL WARHOL

An Englishman by the name of Andy Fields claims to have bought an Andy Warhol sketch from the 1930s for £3 (just under $5) at a rummage sale in Las Vegas, where it was hidden amongst a pile of other artwork. The person he bought it off said his aunt used to work for Warhol when he was a child.

The artwork is signed and is thought to have been created by a ten or eleven year old Warhol, which would make it one of the earliest examples of his famous pop art style. “It moves the birth of Pop Art back two decades, showing Warhol was already doing that sort of stuff at a far younger age,” said Fields. A formal valuation has estimated the piece’s worth at £1.3 million, but Fields believes it is worth up to ten times that figure.
