YOUTUBE DEEMS 84-MINUTE ‘FIRST KISS’ INAPPROPRIATE, THEN TAKES IT BACK.

It seems that the argument over censorship is once again, in full swing. Artist, Idan Bitton could not have predicted that a video of two men engaging in an extended kiss would garner a vehement outcry for stricter viewership guidelines; however, that is exactly what happened after Bitton posted a 84-minute video entitled “First Kiss” on YouTube. After three weeks of being available to the general public, YouTube deemed the content too inappropriate for viewers of all ages and decided that it should be age-restricted.

The video, which was shot by Runn Shayo, simply allows us to view an honest, loving, and passionate human connection between two men (Alfredo Calle Ferran on the left, Idan on the right). There is no nudity, profanity, or vulgarity. Bitton’s reaction to the controversy is quite telling:

“First Kiss’ offers a view into an intimate moment between two men. The kiss does not interact with the viewers nor seeks their approval. It just is, alive and present for 84:24 minutes. For me, the video is a reflection of the gay rights struggle momentum. At this point, everyone is welcome to take a look if they choose to, yet our kiss is here to stay with no apologies.”

The good news is that YouTube has lifted the restriction, claiming that “human errors happen,” while also asserting that they are open to future appeals by their viewers.
