Today's Daily Dirty Diary

Rick Owens showed his  2014 Spring/Sumer 2014 ready-to-wear collection in Paris featuring a cast of all black, angry plus size step dancers.  To say that Owens shocked an often blasé fashion crowd is an understatement: His camp had been working with four step teams from African-American sororities  for several months — Zetas, Momentum, Soul Steppers, and Washington Divas. The result was a brilliant, transgressive multi-sensory display that upped the ante amongst his competitors. The presentation reinvigorated Owen’s concept of sportswear: his pieces exhibited an intoxicating combination of aesthetic style as well as functionality. Black leather, beige, and white modernized versions of Greek and Japanese inspired garments adorned women in the midst of an uprising. These powerful  and diverse “creatures” were unapologetic about their irreverent attitudes, a refreshing disposition amongst the sometimes emotionally vacant models of late. Each one seized the runway, making her own personalized imprint which culminated in an electrifying choreographed group dance. Owens achieved an artistic vision which incorporated his relevant designs as well as reminded us of the wonderment of imagination.
