TRANS STARS CARMEN CARRERA AND LAVERNE COX REFUSE TO DISCUSS THEIR GENITALIA WITH KATIE COURIC!

Transgender divas Carmen Carrera and Laverne Cox graced the “Katie” show yesterday to discuss their meteoric rises to fame with host, Katie Couric. Carrera has parlayed a stint on RuPaul’s Drag Race to become an in-demand model, recently appearing in Italian Vogue and W Magazine. Now she has her eye on becoming the first transgender Victoria’s Secret Model. Cox currently stars as the endearing Sophia on the hit Netflix series, Orange is the New Black and is also producing a documentary about a trans prisoner. Previously she appeared on VH1’s Transform Me, along with Dirty girl Nina Poon.

The interviews took an interesting turn when the banal Couric ventured to question the ladies about their reassignment surgeries. In true diva mode, Carrera exclaimed, “Shhhhh, I don’t wanna talk about it…it’s really personal.” Cox eloquently described the stance as an affirmation of “the lived realities of the oppression and discrimination…,” [that transgender people face on a daily basis.] It is arguable whether this is actually a step forward or two steps back for the LGBT community. Should transgender celebrities be open about all aspects of their lives or should they focus on having the world see them as representing the new normal?
