IN 2010, A VIDEO CIRCULATED AROUND THE INTERNET OF FOUR BEAUTIFUL MEN OPENING THE ANOUKI BICHOLLA A/W 2011 FASHION SHOW IN SKY HIGH STILETTOS. CLAD IN SKIN TIGHT DENIM AND LEATHER, THEIR DANCE SKILLS WOULD PUT MADONNA AND BEYONCE TO SHAME. OVER THREE MILLION VIEWS LATER, BOYBAND KAZAKY HAS BECOME A WORLDWIDE PHENOMENON. (THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR THEIR SONG “LOVE” IS A FEW VIEWS SHORT OF FIVE MILLION HITS!)
AS FANS AND CURATORS OF GENERAL FIERCENESS OURSELVES, DIRTY HAD TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BOYS, WHO DESCRIBE THEIR WORK AND MISSION AS “THE NEXT PHASE OF THE CULTURAL PROCESS.” WHILE ON A WORLDWIDE TOUR, KAZAKY TOOK TIME OUT TO TALK ABOUT THEIR OVERNIGHT FAME, THEIR NEXT MUSIC VIDEO AND JUST HOW EASY IT IS TO DANCE IN HEELS.

DIRTY: WHERE WERE YOU BORN? WHERE DID YOU GUYS GROW UP?
KAZAKY: We were all born and raised in different countries – Armenia, Ukraine, Italy… What’s more Important is that we’re now gathered together in one place, at the right time.
D: WHEN AND HOW DID THE FOUR OF YOU MEET?
K: We are all dancers, and one way or another, revolved in the same circles. We were familiar with one another for quite some time, and then decided to create Kazaky, our joint project.
D: WHAT DOES ‘KAZAKY’ MEAN?
K: “Kazaky” is a derivative meaning of the popular Japanese word “Kazaki”. Generally we’re very inspired by Japan.
D: YOU BOYS ARE AMAZING DANCERS! HOW LONG HAS EACH OF YOU BEEN DANCING?
K: Thank you! We have all been dancers since childhood.
D: WHICH OF YOU THINKS HE’S THE BEST DANCER?
K: None of us thinks that! (Laughs) Each of us has his own level of experience. Each of us has danced in many different styles before Kazaky: classical, hip-hop, contemporary… And we’ve never competed over who is better or who is worse. We dance equally awesome! (Laughs)
D: WAS IT DIFFICULT LEARNING TO DANCE IN HEELS?
K: It isn’t difficult at all!
D: ASIDE FROM GARETH PUGH, WHAT INSPIRES YOU GUYS?
K: We’re inspired by all talented and creative people. It’s nice to see when a person completely gives themselves to a goal or inspiration, and to watch them receive pleasure from their hard work. Such people are inspiring.
D: WHAT MUSIC DO YOU BOYS LISTEN TO?
K: Jessica 6, GOXXIP… Actually we listen to plenty of music, but these first two groups that just came to mind is because we were just listening to them in the car!
D: WHAT WAS IT LIKE TO PERFORM AT THE D SQUARED FASHION SHOW? AND AT THE ANOUKI BICHOLLA SHOW!
K: It was an interesting experience for us. We were honored to be invited, and would love to do similar gigs again.
D: ARE YOU WORKING ON ANY NEW SONGS?
K: Of course, we’re just now working on new songs and we’re not going to stop! (Laughs)
D: ANY PERFORMANCES PLANNED FOR SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER / NOVEMBER?
K: You can see this on our official website kazaky.com, where is regularly updated information about our concerts.
D: ASIDE FROM DANCING AND SINGING, DO ANY OF YOU HAVE OTHER CREATIVE INTERESTS?
K: Fahion! (Smiles) We have many interests and hobbies. Of course, we do not dance around the clock. If we start to enumerate, it will take much time. At the end of the day though, they are mostly hobbies that stimulate our creativity.
D: WHAT WILL YOUR NEXT VIDEO BE LIKE? WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?
K: We do not say the exact date, but we will say one thing, this time we decided to present it on our official website with the help of YouTube. All detailed information we will appear in our official pages (Facebook, Twitter), which are also available on our website kazaky.com. Beware of fakes!
